1880_Billy Chan PortraitCHAN Billy Ping-Kwong, also known as Shou Ren, was born in Hong Kong in 1938. He learnt about Chinese classics and calligraphy from his uncle. Since graduating from high school, he studied under the Lingnan master Chao Shaoan. He held his first solo show at the age of 20. Chan also studied under Deng Fen. In the 1950s, he followed Deng and others and embarked on a cultural exchange with other artists. 1880_Billy Chan PaintingIn the 1960s, he began travelling Europe extensively and experimented with other painting techniques. He moved to Australia in the 1970s.

With other fellow painters Szeto Kei and Yau Bing-Leung, Chan was one of the founders of the Village Artists Association and was an invited speaker at Kyung Hee University in Korea and St. John’s University in New York City. Chan’s paintings were shown in the United States, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Holland, Sweden, Hong Kong and elsewhere.

Chan values the act of art creation and appreciation. He believes that art is a medium for expressing one’s aesthetics, and a way of cultivating one’s appreciation for the natural world.

陳丙光,字守仁,號友篪、文虎。1938年出生於香港,原籍廣東東莞。先從其五伯父石如習書法及古文,中學畢業後,師從趙少昂習畫,畫風宗嶺南「二高」。 二十世紀五十年代修弟子禮於國畫大師南海鄧芬之門,昕夕論藝,深愜乃師之性,盡獲心法之傳。嘗隨先師及金石書法名家羅叔重等参加雅集交流,廣拓藝術視野。陳丙光現旅居澳大利亞,歷年於美國、澳大利亞、南韓、新加坡、荷蘭、瑞典諸國及香港、台灣、南京、廣州、東莞等地,舉行個人展覽,作品屢獲當地藝術機構收藏。2009年起出任鄧芬藝術基金會榮譽會長,積極推廣乃師鄧芬先生之藝術。
